Headstones: How Long Do They Take to Install?

Print

When ordering headstones to memorialize deceased family members, clients often ask us how long they should expect it to take for the monument to be manufactured and installed.

There are a few factors that can lengthen or shorten this timeline, such as:

The Size and Shape of the Stone:

Small and medium-sized headstones can typically be made and installed relatively quickly, especially if the client chooses a standard shape. Large, intricate stones generally take a lot longer to manufacture.

The Availability of the Stone:

Availability plays a huge role in determining the length of time it’ll take to install a headstone. If the manufacturer needs to wait weeks for the stone to arrive at their shop, the process is almost certain to take longer than three months.

The Responsiveness of the Cemetery:

Most cemeteries in the United States have rules which state they must approve all headstones before they are installed. When cemeteries are responsive, this process generally takes a couple of days at most. When they are unresponsive, it can take weeks or even months.
